B474 Vulcan Jacket - Pencott® Greenzone™

The Vulcan is an excellent, well-made windproof and warm jacket. I bought the M05 jacket, size L (which is 23.5 inches exterior armpit to armpit when zipped up). I am normally a size large and regular build and this fits me well. It fits true to size. I have room underneath for a t shirt and a thin base layer but no more. First thing I did was unpick the stitching on the Velcro arm patches and take them off as they are stiff and make it more difficult to scrunch up the jacket into a stuff sack. Plus I don’t need them. Washed the jacket twice by which time the stitching holes had closed up again so you can’t tell they were even there. The outer material is surprisingly robust. It is NOT thornproof, buts it’s definitely windproof. I sprayed Nik-Wax TX-Direct all over the outer, and now it’s pretty much waterproof too. The inner material is Ranger Green in colour (inner of hood is same colour as the outer though) and is soft and comfortable. The sleeves are long enough to allow full range of movement in the arms. The hood is not a huge bucket of a helmet hood (thank goodness) and can be cinched down in three places. The inner elasticated cuffs work well and are comfortable. This is not a SUPER light jacket compared with similar jackets on the market but it is definitely more robust than most and extremely well made. Main zip is two-way and has a robust baffle to prevent snagging. The main pocket zips are two-way also. I can get an iPhone in the arm pockets and a map in the internal pocket (yes, a map in the internal pocket!). The main external pockets are huge - can also easily take a map. The downsides: two! One: I’d prefer a bit more of a fishtail rear to cover the back of the legs. Two: the main pockets are great but too high to rest your hands comfortably in them. The main upsides: fantastic build quality and features. A lot of thought has gone into producing this, and it is genuinely warm and windproof.

After my first hours of having and wearing this jacket, my wife came home from work. It was then *her* jacket until I bought another like it, but in a different color. She has one now, and I can once again wear *my* lovely jacket. It's rather nice. (My wife wears hers while cycling.)

Great quality jacket - a full range of motion, well made zips and pockets, and a good shape and size. The size I ordered fits well. It's very warm and feels durable - it's coming with me to the Himalayas next year so I'll put it through its paces properly then.

Not only is this a fantastic tactical style jacket, it's perfect for spring, fall, and winter (with the right layering system) hunting in Idaho. It's also soft, durable, and incredibly comfortable.
