// Origins
In 1985, an ex-Royal Marine started a company to create an alternative to British standard-issue military gear. Something that would be far superior, comfortable, durable and functional. Today, Arktis manufacture all types of specialist clothing & equipment for military units, police forces, emergency services, and outdoor enthusiasts all over the world.
'Quality of Endurance' isn't just a slogan; it truly resonates through the core of everything we do. To this day, Royal marines still undergo cold weather training in Norway and other areas of the Arctic Circle, and we meet every challenge mother nature throws at us.
// Purpose
We supply many units, forces and organisations from Special Forces to Air Ambulance Crews and Police forces.
While each has different needs, the same design principles are applied to all of them, building gear that works for the end user again, again and again.
// History
We've come a long way from driving a van across Europe to display in a borrowed tent.
With retailers, customers and dealers around the world, as well as our new Arktis USA branch, Arktis is now a truly international name.
// Established
Despite our British roots, our history with the French military runs deep. This is thanks in no small part to our ex-French Foreign Legion colleague Jess Plaiter, now at MP SEC.
Having first purchased Arktis kit for himself and his unit, Jess went on to work as a sales rep, helping Arktis make that overseas foothold. This included the development of Tundra, a new camo designed in-house at Arktis for French Mountain troops. Now, MP SEC is one of our key partners and distributors.
// THE Future
That initial attitude of exploration and improvement has never faded. Today, we continue to develop garments, fabric, patterns and hardware that push the envelope.
We have always relied on feedback and requests from end-users and will continue to. In our experience, the only way to build gear that goes as far as you do is by having it on the backs of those who push the limits.
A deceptively simple principle, but one we take very seriously. That's why we still develop, test and manage our designs in our UK HQ.
While serving in the French Foreign Legion, Jess Plaiter saw a photo in a magazine of two brothers, one in the British Army Royal Engineers and one in the French...
