This strength of this sac lies in its simplicity. Non camouflaged, mine has no molle webbing, no manufacturer's logo,no velcro patches. There is a tiny "Arktis" tag easily trimmed off and so nothing about the sac to attract unwanted attention.
No structural zips! They've improved but I don't trust them. Jammed or broken structural zips are at the least inconvenient and are potentially disastrous.
The side pockets are a sensible size: a mk1 crusader stove&mug + nalgene oasis bottle will just fit. 1mm off the mug lip flange would ease extraction! Upper zipped pockets are 14" deep, ideal for maps, stove windshields etc. or for stowing socketed glass fibre pole sections etc for making improvised shelters. The top pocket has rings at each corner, good for threading elastic cord for securing crampons or waterproofs. It has fastenings for two ice axes/walking poles.
The chest strap caught my throat but on the low attachment point it was too short. I made a longer one, ends looped around the strap, back under the lowest attachment loop a la Karrimor Sabre: much better!
Detachable waist belt.
I WOULD BUY ANOTHER -if it had eyelets around the sac body top and if the snow lock were replaced with a sac height bivi extension sleeve. Normally it would line the sac, pulled out & twisted it would keep snow out and extended it would either enable bulky loads or would let the extended sac cover feet & legs in a forced bivi. The old ways still have value!!!
This pack is truly top quality. I have one in French CE camouflage and it has been on many day trips in Cumbria and Europe. It is rugged, comfortable and has lots of capacity. It is one of the best bits of kit I have ever purchased and I would recommend it 100%. Its a great price too…..
