Today I received my order. This Boonie hat in M81 Woodland is very well made and nice product. ARKTIS quality! Matches my B226 Marine Sniper Smock, also in M81 cammo, that I use for hunting,
Thanck you ARKTIS!
Greetings from Romania
I bought this along with a V194 style in the same camo pattern. Please see my review of that model for greater detail. Short summary, these are comfortable, well-made hats useful in all weather: rain, sun, wind, or snow. Materials are the high quality you've come to expect from Arktis, with pride in workmanship very evident. If in doubt, buy it; you won't shop for another after trying this one - HIGHLY recommend.
I have had the chance to wear and test this MEP camo hat for three months in the Central-Eastern African highlands, the German (Bavarian) Alps, and of course in England. The brim has just the right size and the material is comfortable to the skin, particularly in hot and sweaty conditions. However, the rip-stop fabric is a two-edged sword:
On the one hand, the material is very sturdy and abrasion resistant, offering additional water resistance to light showers (at least in new condition, probably has to be Nikwaxed after some time). This is particularly important in England as we all now.
On the other hand, the material is not very breathable. You will be sweating easily in the fabric, particularly during moderate-intense workouts. The moisture does not seem to be wicking away easily and instead was running down my face or dripping off the brim. Well, perhaps that is to be expected, but I felt that I was sweating a lot more in this hat when compared to other, perhaps thinner, materials on the market or wool-based African/ Australian bush hats.
The MEP Sand camo worked very well in the Bavarian Alps above the tree line by the way, and was OK in the Central African highland bush/ forest.
The value for money is good in my opinion.
Overall, I can definitely recommend the product, but consider the breathability issue if this is important to you.
